When it comes to interior design, there’s nothing I love more than a good Before & After!?In a recent issue of Country Living Magazine I spotted a fabulous home makeover by one of my favorite interior designers, Sara Story, and had to share.?The home belongs to her sister Lisa, and while she’s one lucky lady with a designer sibling to redo her home free of charge, what makes this makeover even better is that it requires no major renovations. Except the addition of new floors, most of the transformation is achieved with little more than paint, wallpaper and a few smart furniture buys. Plus, it looks like something we could all feel inspired to do, without too great of an expense!
Dark, narrow and dated, the living room before:
….and the living room after:
I love how painting the beams, door and trim in Farrow & Ball’s French Gray brightens the room, making it feel more spacious, while the choice of a neutral palette in fabrics and furnishings, with pops of blue and greenery give the space a breezy, cheerful vibe. To deal with the wonky shape of the living room, Sara divided it into two different areas creating a cozy four chair arrangement by the door and a comfortable lounging area.
As for the dining room before, pure grandma’ style (sorry grandma!):
….and the after:
In the dining room, Sara swapped the wallpaper with a bold Schumacher print that feels elegant yet modern. Repainting the ceiling and woodwork a luminous white, hanging floor length white linen curtains are small cosmetic changes that instantly bring light and new life to the space. The furniture is a mix of high and low, catalog pieces paired with antiques and flea market finds.
